Everything you need to know to start receiving tips
Important
To receive tips through Tip for Dreams, you must activate your payouts and provide valid identification. All setup can be completed through your Dashboard → Manage Payouts.
Step 1: Create Your Account
- Sign up with your email and create a password

Complete your profile with:
- Full name
- Occupation (e.g., Waiter, Bartender, Barista)
- Workplace information
- Profile picture (optional but recommended)
Step 2: Create Your Story
Share your dream with potential supporters:
- Go to Dashboard → My Story
- Title your dream (e.g., "Saving for College", "Dream Trip to Japan")
- Describe your dream - be authentic and genuine
- Explain why you're working - connect with supporters emotionally
- Set a funding goal (optional)
- Add photos to make your story more personal
Step 3: Activate Payouts (REQUIRED)
How to Activate Payouts:

Navigate to Dashboard
- Click on your profile in the top right
- Select "Dashboard"
- Click "Manage Payouts" button

Complete Stripe Connect Onboarding
- Click "Setup Payouts" or "Update Account"
- You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure platform
- Stripe is our payment partner - they handle all money transfers securely

Provide Required Information
- Personal Details: Full name, date of birth, address
- ID Verification: Government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, or national ID)
- Contact Info: Phone number and email
- Tax Information: National Insurance number or Tax ID

Add Your Bank Account or Debit Card
- For Instant Payouts: Add a UK debit card
- For Standard Payouts: Add your bank account details
- Instant payouts arrive within 30 minutes
- Standard payouts take 2-7 business days

Verify Your Identity
- Upload a photo of your government ID
- Stripe may ask for additional verification (e.g., selfie)
- This is for security and fraud prevention
- Your information is encrypted and secure
Processing Time
Verification usually completes instantly, but may take up to 1-2 business days if additional checks are needed. You'll be notified by email once approved.
Step 4: Share Your Story
Once your payouts are activated, start receiving tips:
- Get your unique code from your dashboard

Share your story link:
- Print your QR code and display it at work
- Share on social media
- Add to your email signature
- Include in your CV/resume
- Start receiving tips! Money arrives automatically to your account

Your Information is Safe
- All data is encrypted with bank-level security
- Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified
- We never see or store your bank details
- Your personal information is never shared publicly
What Supporters See
- Your name and workplace (only what you choose to share)
- Your story and photos
- Your funding progress
- NOT visible: Your bank details, address, ID documents
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to provide ID?
This is a legal requirement to prevent money laundering and fraud. All payment platforms must verify user identities to comply with financial regulations.
How long does verification take?
Usually instant! In some cases, it may take 1-2 business days if additional checks are needed.
Can I use someone else's bank account?
No. The account must be in your name and match the details you provided during registration. This is for your security.
What if my payout setup is rejected?
Check your dashboard for specific instructions. Common issues include:
- ID photo is unclear - retake with better lighting
- Information mismatch - ensure all details match your ID exactly
- Under 18 - you must be 18 or older to receive payouts
When do I get paid?
With instant payouts (debit card), you get paid within 30 minutes of receiving a tip. With standard payouts (bank account), payouts are processed according to your payout schedule (typically weekly).
Can I change my bank details later?
Yes! Go to Dashboard → Manage Payouts → Update Account to modify your bank account or debit card information at any time.
